So far I have been giving two theories about the crazy week I had with multitudes of spiders around my door. The first is simply that spiders here are adapted to living in 40 degree C whether, so just like people they try to get warmer when it gets closer to 10 degrees C. So that theory was basically that they would try to get inside. That would have been well and good, except that it's still cold outside at night and not there anymore. The second theory was that the first big wolf spider that was outside my door (pictures on here below) was a female. Apparently female spiders secret a hormone that basically summons all of the male spiders. So the theory is that were all coming to my door because they thought a female spider was by my room. This could actually make sense, since they seemed to disappear after the huge rainstorm that we had...which I guess could wash away the female-spider-ness of my door?
My goal was to make my way to the outlet mall that's just outside of Perth (on the way to Fremantle), but the Fremantle trains are cancelled today for some reason. So I'll save that for another time. I didn't feel like fighting with hundreds of people to get on the replacement bus services.
For you movie-type fanatics, I met Hugh Jackman the other day. You may know him as either a Tony Award Winner, Emmy Award Winner, Leopold or Wolverine. Take your pick. Well...maybe like 2 weeks ago or something. He was on-campus because he graduated from our performing arts program and they were giving him an honourary degree and he was giving a speech. I actually wasn't part of anything...he was just walking along the main walk through our campus. I told him to have a good day and he thanked me for not going crazy and asking for a million autographs. What was he going to sign? The stuffed Wolverine I keep in my backpack for all those times I run into him?
I'm busy with doing a bit of a revision on my proposal. That's what I've been up to for the most part. Feel free to email me and I'll send you a copy if you're interested - it may be the easiest way to actually see what I'm going to be working on :).
I just finished reading Book of Names by Jill Gregory & Karen Tintori. It was pretty good...a very weird religious/science mystery...like a lot of bestsellers seem to be now...everything gets compared to the Da Vinci Code now. I don't think it's one that would be my #1 recommendation, but if you're looking for a random book to read it's not bad haha!
