My Travels in Australia

I'm Back

I was never really anywhere, but I realize it's been a little while since I last updated. I seem to have had quite the "luck" (I guess?) in terms of finding spiders to show you lately. I believe after consideration that this one is a black house spider. It was about the right size (although maybe a little large...maybe a largely sized black house spider?), and it had the right look to it. Like the wolf spider I showed before, this one is considered venomous, but only causes a really painful bite. They say it causes an infection once and a while at the bite...but I'd be more likely to think that the infection is from something else completely unrelated. All in all, it seems that the smallest spider I've seen is the most venomous (the redback)!

In terms of school, I'm working away on my project and my courses. I have a few assignments on the go, including a second research proposal that is just an assignment for one course. I'm basically adapting my during literature review and proposing a slightly different experiment, so at least I don't have to come up with a completely new topic! I'm also working on a book review (about the 'Discovery of the Hobbit' book I mentioned before) and an article for a popular science magazine (probably about constructed wetlands or something related) for my natural science course...both of which could be sent for publication by the school if they choose...so that's a cool reason to make us work hard on those! My actual research proposal is coming along well and I have a meeting tomorrow to probably go over some fine-tuning...mostly to do with methods I'm guessing.

For any of you who have been overly considered about the weather being far too nice down under...I just thought I'd share that once and a while we get a rainy day...

Although I should probably note, that the day before and the day after are always perfectly sunny.

I also thought I'd direct you to the Great Turtle Race website. I'm supporting "Windy"! She's made it to Playa Grande and successfully had maybe sea turtles twice even with fresh scars both times! All sea turtles are threatened or endangered, including the leatherbacks that are being sponsored in this race. If you click the "Meet the Turtles" link on the page, you can sponsor a turtle (you just say you support it...there's no money involved or anything). Windy's not in first right now, but I know she can pull through!
