My computer decided recently that Word no longer existed, so I had to reinstall Office. I'm being reminded of how many annoying features Microsoft products have as I continually have to keep turning off all the automatic functions that I used to have turned off. This morning I was typing a paragraph and hit enter to start a new paragraph and Word decided that I didn't want a new paragraph, what I really wanted was some random box to type in that would've looked crazy. Maybe they actually do hire monkeys to figure some stuff out?
So we have his professor...well I guess he's not a professor, but he works up on our floor. His name is David Goodall and he's 95. He still drives himself in every day (including weekends). He just likes researching, and he doesn't want to stop. He got his PhD in 1937 and his biggest accomplishment was probably in 1954 (at least that's what he says) (since then he's gotten honourary degrees from Melbourne and a university in Italy (I can't remember the name)). If you've heard of "ordination" in terms of statistics, it's because he was the first person to ever call anything in statistics "ordination" back in '54, and he put together most of the steps you take while doing it. He asks questions during every postgraduate student seminar, and is probably the best person in the department to go to if you need statistical advice...of course that only works if you have extra time to listen to the stories that go in between the pieces of advice :).
