My Travels in Australia

Grower's Market

One of my profs took me to the Grower's Market here. I think it's in Edgewater, about 10 minutes from Joondalup, but I'm not sure.

I managed to get fresh bread ("fresh bread" here is more like pita shells), leek, onion, mushrooms, green and yellow peppers (these are called green and yellow capsicums here...they don't call them peppers ever), snow peas, cucumber, apricots, bananas, ham and pastrami for $12! This place is way better than the grocery store...it's all fresh and all cheap straight from the growers. It also has a tonne of little shops, one of which specializes in lamb skin products for those of you who wanted lamb skin stuff ;). And there's shops specializing in all sorts of Asian spices, Egyptian food, dried fruits, etc. It's a really cool place.

I also finally saw a wild Squirt! I was telling my prof that we had a rainbow lorikeet, and he told me to go to this dead-like tree at the driveway to the campus in the evening. There must have been close to 100 of them flying around. No, they do not talk. And they don't sound like blue jays either. I realize I have only heard limited amounts of actual rainbow lorikeet sounds!

He also showed me where Lake Joondalup is, which at the moment is quite dried up, but I'll head over there and get some pictures. There's a park about 10-15 mintes away from my room, and kangaroos apparently run through it at dusk heading from one place to another. So I'm going to try and see that eventually as well!

Anyways, with all the stores closed tomorrow, I'm heading out to grab a few more groceries and such.
